Presentation

Öznur Karakaş is a PHD candidate in the UOC working on the questions of emergence and embodiment in Gezi Movement that occurred in Turkey in 2013 from the perspective of the concept of assemblage originally developed by Deleuze & Guattari. The study includes a critical inquiry on the concept of network and its capacities to explain the recent wave of social movements generally referred as Occupy Movements. Through the mediation of the concept of network in Actor-Network Theory, the study proposes to deploy the concept of assemblage to duly account for the highly embodied aspects of the movement.

Holding master degrees in philosophy (Galatasaray University 2011, L’Université de Toulouse- Jean Jaures/Charles University-Prague 2014), the PHD candidate works at the intersection of social movement studies, anthropology, political philosophy and gender studies. She is particularly interested in affect, body politics and care in social movements and community making practices.
