Nowadays, we are witnessing an increase in large forest fires, especially in areas with a Mediterranean climate and vegetation. In addition, there is an increasing number of buildings located within or adjacent to forests, what accentuates the probability that people, homes and infrastructure suffer catastrophic impacts in the event of a forest fire. In this context, the publication ‘Living with forest fires. Prevention guide’ offers information and guidelines on forest fires prevention and mitigation measures that can increase security and reduce the vulnerability of homes, urbanisations and other types of buildings in the Balearic Islands. Additionally, the guide includes recommendations to prevent daily human activities from causing the accidental ignition of a fire.
